Coverage & assumptions
This is a planning estimate for tax year 2025, not a filed return or tax advice. It does not calculate every U.S. tax situation. Federal tax uses continuous rate schedules rather than the IRS filing tax tables below $100,000; return amounts can differ. Calculations retain cents; displayed results round to whole dollars.
Calculated here
Five filing statuses; wages; ordinary and qualified dividends; net capital gains and limited losses; taxable retirement income; the regular Social Security worksheet; self-employment tax with separate spouse caps; standard and supported itemized deductions; the enhanced senior deduction; simplified QBI; dependent credits and the earned-income ACTC method; basic AMT, NIIT and Additional Medicare Tax.
Needs your verified amounts
State taxable income and state credits; other-state credits; itemized mortgage, charitable and other deductions after their limits; eligible Schedule 1 adjustments; tips, overtime and car-loan deductions after Schedule 1-A limits; QBI after business-level adjustments; EITC, education, energy and other credits; complex ACTC and other additional taxes.
State & local coverage
Full-year residents of Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, North Carolina and Pennsylvania can calculate the flat state tax using their state worksheet's taxable income. This tool does not derive that base from federal income. Every other state, DC, part-year and multi-state cases require an official liability entry. Local tax uses your verified taxable base and rate, an official liability, or your explicit confirmation that none applies.
Outside automatic coverage
Nonresident or dual-status federal returns; taxpayers claimed as dependents; foreign-income exclusions; community-property allocations; business entities and business-level state taxes; farm, clergy and railroad rules; special capital-gain rates or AMT basis differences; loss and credit carryovers; Social Security lump-sum elections; premium tax credit reconciliation; credit-specific AMT interactions; penalties and interest. A selected unsupported situation prevents a combined total.
